Rava

Rava
(fl. 4th cent)
Babylonian amora. He was born in Mahoza, and established an academy there when Abbaye became head of the academy at Pumbedita. After Abbaye's death, Rava succeeded him at Pumbedita, which he amalgamated with Mahoza. His controversies with Abbaye were famous; with six exceptions the ordinances of halakhah were determined in accordance with his views.
